“The best way to lengthen out our days is to walk steadily and with a purpose.”
Charles Dickens
It’s Saturday night, and I don’t want it to end just yet. Maybe because of the feeling that when Sunday comes, it means work week is just around the corner. Makes me ask, why we have that feeling. Is it because we don’t like what we do? Is daily grind becoming too stressful? Are you having thoughts of quitting?
I have a pretty good job that pays well. A job that doesn’t take my weekends (at least, not too often). Our work hours are flexible. I’m surrounded with smart and talented people working for products that help a lot of people around the world. Still, I’m having these moments.
Every time I’m in this phase, I always go back to the why I even took it and jumped back again to the corporate world. And I remember clearly these three: help family, improve self, and be able to give back. And then I look around and see how truly blessed I am with what I currently have. Knowing that I get my purpose in check helps me to get back on my feet. It’s like a bolt of energy that allows me to keep a long stretch on the journey ahead.
I guess this is what weekends are for, and why we have vacation leaves. The time we needed to rethink and recharge. And just like the challenges we’ve been in the past, when we look at it now it makes a lot more sense. We need to experience those things to become the better person we are today. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows. Yet we’re still here, we survive.
Remember your WHYs and prioritize what brings you joy. Let it be your motivation to always keep showing up in life and swerve around the obstacles. Trust the process.
