Essential life lessons you learn through play.

What I love about playing with my kids, is witnessing them having fun and at the same time learn without them knowing. It’s not everyday we can have time for long rounds of game, but when we do we make the most out of it. Board games are our go-to family game night choice, and we let the kids choose the type of board game. Today’s featured game is MONOPOLY.

Here are the ways kids learn while having fun playing this:

Organize. We let them set it up. From preparing the money, setting up the bank, organizing the Title Deed cards, and shuffling the Chance and Community Chest cards, preparing the dice and players’ token on GO.

Basic Math. At times, we let them be the Banker. It forces them to do the math – add, subtract, multiply and recognize the value of the money.

Negotiate. It amazes me when they know when to buy, sell, or swap their properties. Little by little, through listening and observation, they learn the art of making a deal. I like it most when they ask about why I want to buy their properties, later on I know they will learn about motives as well.

There’s still much to learn like location is key, how to handle disappointments, lose some win some, etc. Games like this helps. And family is there to always guide.

Fun night and essential life lessons for all of us!
