This quarantine forces most of us to do our work at home. It would mean no face-to-face meetings, no lunch outs, no commute/travel time, etc. It’s been a while, so I guess most of us are already adjusted to this new setup. Sharing some tips that worked for me here:
Balance work and personal
Well, we’ve been trying to do this ever since, the effective balance of work and life. It makes it a little more challenging when work is done within the comforts of our home. So how do we balance? By giving time for both, and finding fine transitions in between. Plan your day in such a way you’ve carved out of time for personal matters, and then adding in the important work engagements. In this way, you don’t miss out on what truly matters.
Make a new routine
What do you plan to do at the specific hour of the day? Set time for family interactions, physical activity, lounge hour to read or be creative, time for reflection or meditation, or whatever activities that is good for your mind, body, and spirit. It’s also effective to setup a regular time and a dedicated place for work. You sit down on your work desk at the same time daily. This will set the tone of your senses.
Check up on each other
As you’ve been mostly away from each other, allow for a quick chat or messaging just to about anything. This constant check up will make you connected, as well as ensuring everyone is in a good state.
Flash your video… or not
It’s your decision. Welcome whoever tries to appear on the video like your dog/cat who comes in between you and your laptop, your child who’d probably take a peek and appear in the camera view, or anyone from the household that would cross from your back. These things you can’t 100% control when you’re at home. You just have to go with the flow (and hopefully not take things too seriously) because sure, others will understand too.
Take frequent breaks
Sometimes, when we get too busy we forget to take breaks. Breaks would be as simple as walking around the house, taking a cold glass of water, to picking up a healthy snack, a quick chat with your wife/husband, a brief goofing around with your kids. And if taking a break is not enough to cure the stress, then taking a leave may do. Staycation is still fun, if you need more time to relax.
Hope some in this list resonates to what you already do. Feel free to share other tips below. Stay healthy and productive!
